We spoke with Carlos Santos (Breda University of Applied Sciences) on how virtual production is reshaping filmmaking in Europe, from evolving production roles to the challenges of integrating VP technology and training the next generation.

The VPSN team tasked students to showcase the capabilities of virtual production, engaging writers and filmmakers to sit down and convey “just what is virtual production”. Instead of making a long explainer, we thought “Let’s show it, not tell it”.

In 2024, the VPSN project team presented and published a case study research paper at the CONFIA24 conference. The VPSN research project addresses the need for VP-trained personnel by offering workshops and resources to prepare educators and students, emphasizing VP’s potential to revolutionize both creative industries and educational curricula.

The report explored the impact of the VP workshops on students, giving greater understanding for the future workshops, areas that worked, and areas which need improvements and overall feedback.

Students from across Europe joined forces to experience virtual production all the way from pre-production to post-production in the VPSN Student Workshop.
